ADHD in Adults
A structured, consultant-led diagnostic assessment for adults experiencing difficulties with attention, focus, and everyday functioning.
Our Approach
Recognising Adult ADHD and Finding the Right Support Across Ireland
Many adults live with ongoing difficulties around focus, organisation, procrastination, impulsivity, or emotional regulation without ever considering that ADHD may be part of the reason. Challenges at work, missed deadlines, relationship strain, mental overload, and constant feelings of falling behind are often mistaken for stress, burnout, or simply how life is.
For many adults, years of difficulty with focus, organisation, emotional regulation, and burnout are only fully understood after a formal assessment. At Mindful Space, adult ADHD assessment in Ireland is designed to provide clear diagnosis, practical recommendations, and personalised treatment planning, helping you move forward with the right support in place.

about
What Does ADHD Look Like in Adults?
ADHD in adults often looks very different from the hyperactive stereotype many people associate with childhood ADHD. While some adults experience restlessness or impulsivity, others may struggle more with attention, planning, time management, and emotional regulation.
Adult ADHD can affect work performance, relationships, routines, finances, and overall wellbeing. Difficulties with procrastination, forgetfulness, mental overload, and executive dysfunction are common, particularly for people who have spent years masking symptoms or developing coping strategies without realising ADHD may be contributing.

Signs You May Need an Adult ADHD Assessment
ADHD symptoms in adulthood are often subtle and can overlap with anxiety, stress, or burnout. A structured adult ADHD assessment helps identify whether these challenges may be linked to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and what support may be most appropriate.
Some of the signs that may indicate an adult ADHD assessment could be helpful include:
- Difficulty focusing or completing tasks
- Forgetfulness and poor organisation
- Chronic procrastination
- Impulsive decision-making
- Emotional overwhelm
- Restlessness or mental hyperactivity
- Work performance concerns
- Repeated burnout or feeling constantly behind
Diagnosis
Why ADHD Is Often Diagnosed Later in Life
Many adults are only diagnosed with ADHD later in life because symptoms can be misunderstood for years. Some people develop strong coping strategies that mask difficulties, while others assume their challenges are simply part of their personality rather than signs of a neurodevelopmental condition.
ADHD can also overlap with anxiety, depression, and chronic stress, which may delay recognition. Women in particular are often diagnosed later, as symptoms may present differently and are sometimes missed during childhood. For many adults, assessment provides the first real explanation for lifelong patterns that previously felt difficult to define.
ASSESSMENT PROCESS
Adult ADHD Assessment Process
At Mindful Space, we follow a structured three-step pathway for adult ADHD assessment in Ireland, designed to provide clarity without unnecessary delays. Our clinician-led process focuses on understanding how attention difficulties, executive dysfunction, impulsivity, and emotional regulation challenges affect adult life, including work, relationships, routines, and overall wellbeing.
Step 1
Initial Screening Consultation
Your first appointment is a 30–45 minute screening consultation. During this session, the clinician will explore your concerns, review current attention and concentration difficulties, and discuss how symptoms may be affecting your day-to-day life, work performance, and personal responsibilities.
You will also be guided through the required forms and questionnaires, including symptom checklists, medical history, and functional impact screening. If ADHD is clearly ruled out at this stage, there is no obligation to proceed further.
Following this appointment, we will send you the assessment forms, which include:
ASSESSMENT FORMS INCLUDED
- Medical & Psychiatric History Form
- ADHD Self-Report Questionnaire
- Childhood ADHD Symptom Checklist
- Functional Impairment Questionnaire
- Weiss II Symptom Checklist
- GAD-7
- PHQ-9
You must return the completed forms at least 48 hours before your next appointment. Our team will be happy to assist if you need support completing the questionnaires.
Step 2
Comprehensive Clinical Assessment
The full assessment involves a detailed clinical interview exploring attention, concentration, impulsivity, restlessness, developmental history, and how symptoms may have affected both childhood experiences and adult functioning over time.
Where clinically appropriate, structured tools such as DIVA 2.0 or Qb testing may be used alongside your completed questionnaires. This helps ensure the assessment follows recognised diagnostic standards and accurately evaluates whether symptoms meet DSM-5 criteria for adult ADHD diagnosis.
Step 3
Diagnostic Report and Treatment Planning
Following your assessment, you will receive a detailed written report outlining whether diagnostic criteria for ADHD have been met, alongside a structured review of findings and practical recommendations for support.
This may include workplace or education support letters, treatment planning, lifestyle recommendations and discussion of appropriate next steps. The goal is not simply diagnosis, but helping you move forward with clear and personalised support.
Support
Treatment and Support for Adult ADHD
Adult ADHD treatment is often about improving how everyday life feels, whether that means managing work responsibilities more effectively, reducing overwhelm, improving routines, or understanding patterns that have caused stress for years.
Support is tailored to how symptoms affect you personally, and where clinically appropriate, may include:
- Psychoeducation to better understand adult ADHD and how it affects daily life
- Practical strategies for organisation, planning, and time management
- Executive function coaching and ADHD-focused therapy
- Emotional regulation support for stress, frustration, and overwhelm
- Workplace recommendations and reasonable adjustment support
- Medication discussion where clinically appropriate
- Follow-up reviews to monitor progress and treatment response
- Prescription management for existing patients where suitable
We also recognise that ADHD may overlap with anxiety, depression, burnout, or Autism. Taking a broader view helps ensure support is built around your full experience, not just one diagnosis.
